Peyton Barton Named MIAA Men's Field Athlete of the Week

Kansas City, Mo. -- Missouri Southern junior thrower Peyton Barton has been named the MIAA Indoor Field Athlete of the Week as announced by the league office today.

Barton posted the biggest mark of the day as he set a new school record in the weight throw at the Crimson and Gold Invite hosted by Pittsburg State. Barton hit an NCAA Provisional Qualifying mark of 21.83m (71-07.50) to take home the title in the event. The mark bested the previous MSSU record of 69-01.5 by more than two feet. It is the top mark in D2 this season by nearly four feet and is the second-longest weight throw ever in the history of the MIAA.

Barton and the Lions will be off until Jan. 20 when Southern competes at Pittsburg State.
