Lacy Stokes has been named the MIAA Women's Basketball Athlete of the Week for Week 11 as announced by the league office today. This is the second time Lacy has been distinguished with the honor this season.
Lacy led the Lions to home wins over Rogers State (73-56) and Northeastern State (55-47) this week, pushing the Lions win total to seven straight the second longest streak under head coach
Ronnie Ressel.
Stokes averaged 16.5 points, 8.5 assists, 5.0 rebounds and 3.0 steals a game that included adding her name into history along some rare company. Against the Hillcats she finished with a double-double of 13 points and 10 assists and had six rebounds. It was the first time since the 2014-15 season a Lion had 10 or more assists in a game and the first points-assists double-double by a freshman since Diane Hoch in the 1988-89 season.
Against the RiverHawks, Lacy finished with 20 points, seven assists along with four rebounds and three steals. During the week she became the 17th member of the 100 or more assist and 50 or more steals in a season club at Southern, just the third freshman to ever accomplish the feat as a Lion.
For the season Lacy is leading the MIAA in Assists (112), assists per game (5.9), free throws attempted (136), steals (63) and steals per game (3.32) and is the only player in Division II to rank in the top-10 in each category. Lacy is also second in the MIAA and Division II in assist-turnover ratio (3.61) and ranks in the top-10 in the MIAA in field goals made (105), field goal percentage among qualified players (37.6), free throws made (94), minutes per game (32.62) and points per game (16.9).
This week the Lions will be on the road to take on Lincoln Thursday inside Jason Gym at 5:30 pm before taking on Central Missouri on Saturday at the Multipurpose Building at 1:00 pm in a key matchup for the Lions.
