Joplin, Mo. – The sixth-ranked Missouri Southern men's cross country program placed second, while
Ryan Riddle and
JP Rutledge finished first and second as the Lions competed at the 31
st-annual Southern Stampede today at Tom Rutledge Cross Country Course.
Southern finished 21 points behind first-place Pittsburg State in the team standings, but the Lions had four runners in the top-21 and three in the top-10.
Riddle won the 8k race in a time of 24:14.00, while Rutledge was nine seconds back at 24:23.16.
Riley Simpson was tenth in a time of 25:02.21, while
Jarod Ozee placed 21
st in a time of 25:23.32.
Zachary Finley was 40
th in a time of 25:52.23, while
Landon Fatino (26:34.01) and
Gabe McClain (27:06.57) placed 60
th and 85
th, respectively.
Kevin Koester and
Kevin McClain finished the race in a time of 27:32.50 and 28:33.40, respectively.
Pittsburg State placed all five scorers in the top-20 to edge the Lions by 21 points. St. Mary (Kan.) was third, followed by Mississippi College, Nebraska-Kearney, Central Missouri, Emporia State, Dallas Baptist, Washburn and East Central to round out the top-ten team scores.
Southern will be back in action on October 9 as the Lions will travel to the University of Alabama-Huntsville.
