Pittsburg, Kan. – The nationally-ranked Missouri Southern track and field teams posted nine event wins as the Lions competed at the Pittsburg State Tune-up inside Carnie Smith Stadium today.
To go along with the nine wins, the Lions posted four school records and three NCAA Automatic Qualifying marks.
Ryan Riddle broke the school record in the 1,500m and set a new stadium record of 3:44.97 which broke the facility record that had stood for 11 years and was held by a former Lion, Brennan Benkert. The time is a strong NCAA Provisional Qualifying Mark and ranks ninth nationally.
Rajindra Campbell continued his torrid pace as the Jamaican won the discus and the shot put with NCAA Automatic Qualifying marks in both and a school record in the shot put. Campbell posted a mark of 19.61m (64-04.00) in the shot ton win the event and break his previous school record by nine inches. He then went on to win the discus with another AQ of 57.64m (189-01). Campbell ranks second nationally in the shot put and third in the discus.
Josh Fulmer and
Elijah Smith placed ninth and 12
th in the shot put, while
Peyton Barton was fourth, Fulmer was 11th and
Connor Boyd was 19
th in the discus.
The women's 4x100m relay team of
J'Zaria Cartwright,
Jasmine Deckard,
Cornesia Calhoun-White and
Chardae Overstreet broke the school record in the event that was set three weeks ago by turning in an NCAA Provisional Qualifying mark of 46.23.
Travis Petersen broke his own school record and punched his ticket to nationals with a distance of 66.16m (217-01) in the hammer throw to win the event. Fulmer was fourth in the event, while Boyd and Barton placed sixth and seventh.
In other action, Deckard was second in the 100m dash with a time of 11.59, nearly missing out on both an NCAA AQ and her own school record. Deckard then went on to place second in the 200m with another NCAA Provisional time of 24.22, while Overstreet was eighth and
LaNea Wallace placed 10
th.
Wallace and Overstreet placed second and seventh in the 400m, while
Ashlynn Vanatter was 20
th.
Brieon Randle was seventh in the men's 400m, while
Gabe McClain placed third in the 800m.
Kelie Henderson won the women's 1,500m with a time of 4:39.64, while
Janna Hautala and
Jenari Lopez placed fourth and ninth.
Janeth Jepkirui won the women's 5k with a time of 17:47.49.
Precious Olatunji placed third in the women's 100m hurdles, while
Danielle Prince was fifth in the women's 3k steeplechase.
Dancan Kibet was 2
nd in the men's steeple.
Elena Bisotto placed fifth in the women's invite pole vault with an NCAA Provisional qualifying height of 3.83m (12-06.75), while
Megan Tramel was fourth in the open pole vault.
Ojurere Shonekan and Olatunji placed 14
th and 15
th in the long jump, while
Taris Jackson was 11
th in the men's long jump.
Deiajuane Watts was 18
th in the women's triple jump, while Jackson and
Adrain Broadus placed third and fifth in the men's triple.
Payton Roberts won the women's shot with an NCAA Provisional mark of 15.44m (50-08.00), while Alexandra Rodrigues was third in the women's hammer with a distance of 51.37m (168-06).
Katelyn Mooney was second in the women's Javelin with an NCAA Provisional distance of 47.25m (155-00), while
Logan Bell and
Brendan Rozier both posted provisional marks of their own in the men's javelin. Bell hit a mark of 59.06m, while Rozier hit 58.91m.
Trey Beachler was seventh in the javelin.
The Lions will be back in action on May 8-9 when Southern heads back to Pittsburg, this time to compete in the 2021 MIAA Outdoor Track and Field Championships.
