Warrensburg, Mo. – The Missouri Southern track and field program posted nine event wins and a host of other top-five finishes as the Lions competed at the Outdoor Mule Relays hosted by Central Missouri.
Ryan Riddle came through with an NCAA Automatic Qualifying time in the 5k and
Gidieon Kimutai just missed out, but both runners broke the Walton Stadium record in the event, one that had stood for 40 years. Riddle crossed the line in a time of 13:54.80 to punch his ticket to nationals and win the event. Kimutai was second in an NCAA Provisional Qualifying time of 13:57.12, while
JP Rutledge placed sixth.
Kirsten Leisinger won the discus with an NCAA Provisional Qualifying distance of 47.43m (155-07), while
Payton Roberts was third with a provisional distance of her own in 46.59m (152-10).
Alexandra Rodriguez was fifth.
Leisinger won the hammer, as well, as she broke a school record and nearly missed out on an AQ, hitting an NCAA Provisional Qualifying mark of 59.53m (195-04) to break the MSSU record by nearly two feet. Rodriguez was third in the event with a provisional mark of 53.18m (174-06).
Julianna Determan won the 10k in an NCAA Provisional Qualifying time of 36:29.42.
Kelie Henderson won the women's 1,500m in a time of 4:41.49, w Riley Vickery placed seventh and
Janeth Jepkirui was 11
th.
Rajindra Campbell won the shot put in an NCAA Automatic Qualifying distance of 18.69m (61-04.00), while
Josh Fulmer and
Elijah Smith placed eighth and tenth in the event.
In other action,
Elena Bisotto had a big jump in the pole vault, hitting an NCAA Provisional Qualifying Mark of 4.02 (13-02.25).
Jordan Banker was fifth, while
Megan Tramel placed sixth.
Roberts was second in the shot put with an NCAA Provisional Qualifying mark of 14.22m (46-08.00), while
Haley Clifton was seventh.
Campbell was second
Peyton Barton was fourth in the discs as Campbell hit an NCAA AQ in the event hitting a mark of 58.00m (190-03). Barton was fourth, while Fulmer placed eighth and
Connor Boyd was 12
th.
Travis Petersen had a big mark in the hammer, hitting an NCAA Provisional distance of 63.42m (208-01). Barton, Fulmer and Boyd finished 5-6-7 in the event.
Mason York was third in the pole vault with a height of 4.72m (15-05.75).
Gabe McClain was fourth in the men's 1,500m, while
Nathan Painter and
Kevin Koester placed eighth and tenth, respectively.
Dancan Kibet was second in the 3k steeple chase, while McClain and Painter placed third and tenth in the 800m.
Southern will be back in action next Saturday when the Lions travel to Pittsburg State.
