Men's Track In Second After Day Two Of 2019 MIAA Outdoor Championships

Warrensburg, Mo. -- The Missouri Southern men's track and field team is in second place heading into the final day of the meet as the Lions competed in day two of the 2019 MIAA Outdoor Track and Field Championships, hosted by Central Missouri.

Southern had five All-MIAA performances and two event wins on the day, including a thrilling finish to the 10k to conclude the night's action.

Josh Norville started things off with a third-place finish and an All-MIAA honor in the long jump, leaping to a distance of 24-10.50 in the event. Brendan Watkins was tenth, while Adrain Broadus was 13th.

Rajindra Campbell picked up the first of two All-MIAA performances on the day in the shot put as he hit a distance of 58-01.00 to finish third for All-MIAA honors. Josh Fulmer was ninth, while Elijah Smith placed 18th. Campbell then went on to win the discus in a distance of 185-02 to pick up his first MIAA Championship in his career. Smith was 17th in the event.

Dean Howard was sixth in the pole vault, hitting a height of 16-01.25 and earning points for the Lions.

On to the running events where the Lions had a strong showing in the 10k, the lone final running event of the night. Gidieon Kimutai and Cody Berry were neck and neck in the lead for the final ten laps, but in the bell lap, Berry passed up Kimutai, who was himself passed at the line as the Lions went first and third in the event. Berry won the 10k in a time of 30:54.23, while Kimutai was third, earning All-MIAA honors, just .01 behind second-place.

In the prelims, Ivan Colbert moved on to the finals of the 110m hurdles with a qualifying time of 14.62, while Jon Johnson qualified for the finals of the 400m dash, just one-tenth in front of teammate Douglas Depagneux, who just missed out on qualifying.

The meet will conclude tomorrow with field events including the Javelin, hammer and triple jump, as well as the finals in the running events.
