Joplin, Mo. -- The Missouri Southern baseball team swept both ends of a double-header today from visiting Truman State by the scores of 7-4 and 10-7.
In game one, Southern (8-2) got a complete-game win from
Corbin Osburn as the lefty struck out ten and walked just one to move to 1-1 on the season.
Alec Alvarez went 3-4 with two runs and an RBI, while
Alex Phillips drove in two.
Jon Leighton,
Johnny Balsamo and
Denver Coffee had an RBI each while Leighton had two hits, including a home run.
Danny Biggs went 2-2 with a run scored.
The Lions trailed 3-0 after the top of the first, but scored a run in the first and second, two in the third, another in the fourth and two in the fifth.
Game two saw another solid pitching performance, this time from
Will Bausinger as he went seven innings, striking out 12 and walking just two, while scattering six hits and allowing two earned runs.
Logan VanWey threw the final two outs for the save.
Alvarez and Phillips had two hits each, while Phillips drove in two and scored twice.
Alex Wheeler had two RBIs, while
Easton Fortuna and Balsamo had an RBI each. Fortuna and
Jordan Barba had two runs each.
The Lions scored early and often, leading 6-0 after four innings and scored four runs in the fifth to put it away.
The two teams will be back at it tomorrow afternoon with a double-header at 1 pm.
