Joplin, Mo. -- Missouri Southern sophomore Vincent Kiprop won his second-straight meet of the year and his second-straight Southern Stampede as the Lions' cross country team won the team title in the 27th running of the Southern Stampede at the Tom Rutledge Cross Country Course this morning. 

Kiprop was ten seconds off the course record as he improved from his 2015 time by nearly a full minute. He traversed the 8k course in a time of 23:18.15. 

The Lions placed six runners in the top 19 as Cristobal Renteria placed fifth in a time of 25:02.28, while Jared Haltom was 13th in a time of 25:21.12. Cody Berry placed 16th in a time of 25:23.70, while Tyler Rush (25:32.33) and  Mike Shanahan  (25:32.47) placed 18th and 19th. 

Nickson Kiptoo was 40th in a time of 26:17.17, while Josh Webb placed 48th in a time of 26:22.29. Ryan Drendel finished 107th in a time of 27:29.33, while Luke Johnson was 113th in a time of 27:34.58. Victor Encarnacion placed 127th in a time of 27:45.69, while James Tupper was 168th (28:51.59) and Luis Suaste was 176th in a time of 29:29.13. 

The Lions scored 50 points to win their second-straight meet of the early season, besting Dallas Baptist by 40 points and 14th-ranked East Central by 89 points. Southwest Baptist was fourth, followed by Pittsburg State, Texas A&M Commerce, Oklahoma Christian, Rogers State, Missouri Valley and Missouri S&T to round out the top ten teams. 

Southern will be back in action on October 1 as the Lions will travel to the Chili Pepper Invitational at the University of Arkansas.
