Tahlequah, Okla. -- The Missouri Southern baseball team could not complete the comeback as the Lions fell 3-2 in the regular-season finale at Northeastern State.
Southern (32-18, 22-17 MIAA) will open up the 2016 MIAA Baseball Tournament on Thursday, May 12 against Missouri Western. The Lions will be the five seed and Missouri Western will be the four seed and first-pitch is slated for 7:30 pm from Lindenwood University.
Jacob Bryant and
Chris Hoffman both had two hits each as Bryant scored a run.
Tyler Sutherland,
Brett Graham, and
Richie Gorski had a hit each with Gorski hitting home run number 10 of the season. Sutherland drove in a run in the game.
Hoffman started and went four innings, striking out two and allowing just three runs.
Zach Litchen and
Austin Aspegren threw the final four innings of the game, holding the RiverHawks scoreless.
NSU (27-21, 21-17 MIAA) had three hits from Zane Takhar and two from Shane Bridges.
The RiverHawks scored a run in the first and another two in the fourth to go up 3-0 after four innings.
Southern added a run in the sixth when Sutherland drove in Bryant and then picked up another run in the seventh on the Gorski home run.
The Lions will be back in action this Thursday night when Southern takes on Missouri Western in the 2016 MIAA Baseball Tournament. First pitch from the Lou Brock Sports Complex is slated for 7:30 pm.
