Bradenton, Fla. -- Jayce Thomas picked up All-American status today in the decathlon as the Lions competed in the 2016 NCAA Division II Outdoor Track and Field Championships, hosted by the IMG Academy.
Thomas started the day by running a 14.90 in the hurdles and then threw a distance of 101-5 in the discus. He won the pole vault with a height of 15-9 and threw the Javelin 144-8. He finished the day running a 4:44.16 in the 1,500m to place seventh overall. He finished with 7,030 points, 560 off the lead score. It was his second score above 7,000 this year in the decathlon and his third All-American performance of the year.
In other action,
Jeff Fraley qualified for the finals of the 200m, finishing in a time of 21.00, setting him up for two All-American performances tomorrow in the finals of the 100m and 200m.
Thomas was 11th in the high jump with a height of 6-08.75, while
Tyler Hovey was 17th in the discus with a toss of 156-11. In Thomas' final action of the day, he failed to qualify for the finals of the 110m hurdles, finishing in a time of 14.83.
