Emporia, Kan. -- The Missouri Southern men's and women's track and field teams competed at Emporia State University, as well as Washington University yesterday and today as the 2016 outdoor season continued.
At WashU,
Emily Harris placed second in the 5k, running to a time of 16:56.23, shedding nearly 14 seconds off of her personal best. The time is second-best nationally and is tops in the MIAA so far this season.
The rest of the team competed at the State Farm/ESU Relays today. Both teams saw two event wins each as the men finished in third place in the team standings, while the women finished tenth.
On the women's side,
Emily Presley won the pole vault for the second-straight week as she equaled her mark from earlier in the season of 12-11.50.
Melanie Bower placed fourth in the event, hitting a height of 12-05.50.
Kaylee Morgan won the long jump with a distance of 19-08.00, while
Tiffany Gilford was 28th in the event.
For the men, the Lions swept the 100m and the 200m with
Jeff Fraley taking the title in the 100m in an NCAA automatic qualifying time of 10.29, while
Desmond Williams won the 200m in a time of 21.66. Fraley's time ranks tops in the NCAA and gives him the top 100m time and third-best 200m time currently in all of Division II.
Williams was second in the long jump with a school-record distance of 24-08.50, while Tyler Hovey placed fourth in the shot put with a heave of 53-08.25. Hovey was sixth in the discus, claiming a provisional distance of 163-03, while Daniel Hernandez was second in the javelin with a throw of 212-01. Hernandez's throw currently ranks fifth nationally in Division II. In other action,
Sara Lin was 16th in the 800m, while
Sierra Wells and
Cora Butcher-Spellman placed 24th and 31st, respectively. Spellman was 40th in the 1,500m, while
Sarah Usher and
Sierra Gray placed eighth and ninth, respectively in the 3k.
Morgan was 15th in the 100m hurdles, while
Rachel Ray and
Lexi Pesek placed 24th and 29th, respectively and Ray was 31st in the 400m hurdles.
Sierra Barrett was 19th in the triple jump, while
Katie Skelton was 12th in the shot put.
Jenson Maydew and
Desirea Buerge placed 17th and 26th, in the shot respectively.
Buerge was sixth in the discus with a distance of 147-09, while
Victoria Foley and Skelton placed ninth and 19th. Foley was seventh in the hammer with a thorw of 164 feet, while Skelton was 26th.
On the men's side,
Brandon Calicutt wsa 22nd in the 400m, while
Peyton Powell and
Jacob Sholl placed 24th and 29th.
Sam Kohrs placed 5th in the 800m in a time of 1:55.98, while
Ben Grant was 16th in the 1,500m.
Ryan Drendel placed 17th in the 5k, while
Sean Manhertz was 13th in the 110m hurdles. The Southern 4x400m relay team placed fifth in a time of 3:18.67.
Morgan Hold was fourth in the pole vault with a height of 15-07.00, while
Kyle Borland placed 21st.
Both teams will be in action next weekend with split squads going to Cowley County as well as Southwest Baptist.
