No. 19 Lions Run Rule Wisconsin Parkside 12-1 in Seven Innings

Joplin, Mo. -- The 19th ranked Missouri Southern baseball team scored eight runs over the fifth and sixth innings and took out visiting Wisconsin Parkside 12-1 at Warren Turner Field. 

Southern (18-5) was led by Jacob Bryant as the senior second basemen went 4-for-5 at the plate with three RBIs and two runs scored. Chris Hoffman went 2-for-4 with three driven in and a run scored, while Jesse Rall went 2-for-3 with an RBI, two runs scored and two walks, to go along with his 12th home run of the season. Trever Burkdoll knocked home his second home run of the season as he went 2-for-3 with a pair of runs and RBIs, while Matt Smith went 2-for-4 with a run and an RBI. Hayden Steele was 2-for-2 with two runs scored, while Tyler Sutherland had a pair of walks and a run scored. 

Kyle McCulloch started and went four strong, striking out four and walking just one as he allowed one run to move his record to 1-0 on the season. Hunter Harrison threw two innings, while Matt Harvey and Chris Hoffman combined to throw the seventh. 

UWP (3-11) had both Jake Kolasinski and Zach Cunningham with two hits each. 

Southern scored two runs in the first when Rall homered and Graham added an RBI single. The Lions added a solo run in each of the second and third innings on RBIs from Bryant and Smith. 

After Parkside scored a run in the fourth, the Lions scored four runs in the fifth and sixth. Bryant had a 2RBI single in the fifth, while Hoffman added an RBI on a sacrifice fly. Southern scored an unearned run in the inning, as well. 

In the sixth, the Lions fot a 2RBI triple from Hoffman, as well as a Burkdoll home run. 

The Lions will be back in action this weekend as Southern travels to Washburn for a conference series. Games will be played on Thursday, Friday and Saturday.
