Joplin, Mo. -- The 19th ranked Missouri Southern baseball team scored 13 runs in the first inning and batted around twice as the Lions took out visiting Wisconsin-Parkside 16-3 tonight at Warren Turner Field.

Southern's (16-5) first inning was highlighted by a grand slam from Jesse Rall, his 11th home run of the year. Rall went 2-for-2 with five RBIs, three runs scored, two walks and a hit by pitch in the game. Richie Gorski went 3-for-4 with three runs scored, while Jacob Bryant went 2-for-3 with a pair of runs and an RBI.

Brett Graham had a hit and two runs scored, while Matt Smith drove in a run and scored once. Garan Stevens had a hit, a run and an RBI.

Sean Goostree started and went four innings as three Lions combined in the game. Goostree moved his record to 1-0 on the season. He struck out six in the game, while Hunter Harrison, Derek Mann, and Trenton Moeller threw the final three innings.

UWP (3-9) had four hits in the game with Kyohei Makita picking up a pinch-hit home run in the fifth.

After the Rangers scored two unearned runs in the first inning without the benefit of a hit, the Lions batted around twice in the first and scored 13 runs. Rall's grand slam highlighted the first as Sutherland, Hoffman, Steele, Smith, Stevens, and Bryant also had RBIs in the inning.
