Pittsburg, Kan. -- Kaylee Morgan broke her own Missouri Southern school record in the pentathlon, while both
Allie Heckemeyer and
Jayce Thomas were in action, as well in day one of the 2016 MIAA Indoor Track and Field Championships hosted by Pittsburg State University at the Robert W. Plaster Center.
Morgan finished in fifth place overall in the pentathlon with a provisional total of 3,560 points, breaking her previous record of 3,459 she set at the 2014 MIAA Indoor Championships. Morgan won the long jump with a distance of 18-10.00 and was fourth in the 60m hurdles en route to picking up four points for the Lions in the event.
Allie Heckemeyer finished 11th in the event with 3,251 points.
In men's action,
Jayce Thomas sits in second place in the heptathlon, just 80 points out of first place after day one of the event. Thomas was third in the 60m dash and second in the long jump, before winning the high jump and placing sixth in the shot put. He has 3,017 points after day one, 58 points more than he had after day one in December when he won the event at this very same track, scoring an automatic total of 5,454 points.
Thomas will have the hurdles, the pole vault and the 1,000 meters in the final day of the heptathlon tomorrow morning. The rest of the meet will begin at 1 pm Saturday with field events, while the running events wil kick off at 3 pm.
