Joplin, Mo. - The Missouri Southern Women's Basketball team returns to The Leggett & Platt Athletic Center on Tuesday evening to battle former MIAA foe Truman State in a 5:30 p.m. tilt.
The Series
The All-Time series is tied at 23-23 with a 58-49 win by Southern in Kirksville last season. Truman had won four in a row and have a current streak of six of the last eight against the Lions. The Lions and Truman met every year from 1990-2012 until the Bulldogs left the MIAA for the GLVC. Last season was the first meeting since Truman's departure. Southern holds a 12-9 advantage in Joplin including 8-6 on
Robert Corn Court inside The Leggett & Platt Athletic Center. The longest winning streak for the Lions was nine and spanned five years from January 18, 1992 until February 15, 1997. Truman's longest winning streak of eight games came on the heels of the Lions streak and spanned three years from January 14, 1998 until February 3, 2001. Prior to last season the last time Southern won in Kirksville was back on December 3, 2008, a 71-65. Truman has won the last two inside LPAC and the Lions had won the last seven prior to those on their home court.

Ronnie Ressel is in his 15th year on the staff at Missouri Southern and his first year at the helm of the women's program. During his three years as an assistant for the women, Ressel had helped the team to a 58-30 record and a 38-22 mark in the MIAA. In 2015-16 the team saw two players earn All-MIAA status as

Truman State
The 2016-17 is Head Coach
Amy Eagan's fourth season at the helm of the Truman Women's Basketball team. In her previous three years, she is 61-31 at the Bulldog head coach and has an overall record of 137-111 in eight years as a collegiate head coach.

The Last Time Out
Missouri Southern
The Missouri Southern Lions Women's Basketball team fell behind early in the opening quarter and, for the third straight time this season, was unable to recover before falling 89-64 to Minnesota State-Mankato inside the Taylor Center Saturday evening.
The Lions shot 39.7 percent, 23-for-58, from the field for the game while Minnesota State-Mankato finished the game at 51.7 percent, 31-for-60. Buerge led Southern with 11 points with Mitchell adding nine and Holcomb eight. The Mavericks were led by Sammie Delzotto with 20 points and Claire Ziegler added 15. Mitchell led the Lions with six rebounds and Ziegler led MSU with 12, 10 defensive boards.
Truman State
The Truman Women's Basketball team used five three-pointers in the second quarter to erase an early deficit then kept the Upper Iowa Peacocks at bay the rest of the game in a 72-61 win on Saturday afternoon.
Rachel Edmundson led four Bulldogs in double-figures with 18 points and scored the first basket in the second quarter to get the party started. Truman trailed by six late in the first but cut the Peacock lead down to four at 13-9 at the end of the quarter. Edmundson tallied the first hoop before the Bulldogs would reel off four straight three-pointers to eventually overtake UIU.
