Lions Soccer Falls 2-0 to Fort Hays State

Hays, Kan. - The Missouri Southern Soccer team (2-6-0, 0-2-0 MIAA) dropped a 2-0 decision to Fort Hays State University (4-4-0, 1-1-0 MIAA) Sunday afternoon at FHSU Soccer Stadium.

The Tigers got on the board in the first half in the 20th minute as Jordan Hester put a breakaway goal on a through ball past Southern's senior goalkeeper Shawnee Phillips. In the 44th minute freshman Bailey North took the Lions' first shot of the match, but it was saved by FHSU goalie Abbie Flax. The Tigers out shot Southern 9-1 in the first half with Phillips recording five saves.

In the second half Fort Hays State got on the board again as Kylee Loneker beat Phillips to the bottom left from 10 yards out. Sophomore Taylor Beck recorded the only other shot on goal for the Lions as her shot was saved by Flax in the 56th minute.

FHSU out shot Southern 26-5, 13-2 in shots on goal, and took seven corners to the Lions' one. Sophomore Brooke Ishmael led the Lions with two shots while senior Karley Thomas, Beck, and North each recorded a shot for the team total of five. Phillips recorded 11 saves on the day while facing the 26 FHSU shots.

Up next for the Lions will be a road trip to Missouri Western for a MIAA match on October 2. Kickoff for that match is schedule for 4pm at Spratt Stadium in St. Joseph.
