Box Score 1 | Box Score 2

Maryville, Mo. --  The Missouri Southern baseball team split the final two games of a double-header today in Maryville, falling 4-1 in the opener, but taking the nightcap 4-3 in 11 innings at Bearcat Field.

Southern (20-15, 15-14 MIAA) scored first in game one, picking up a run in the first when Axel Johnson singled home Evin Natick

Northwest (19-14, 14-11 MIAA) scored a run in the bottom half of the inning and added another run in the fifth and two more in the sixth to put the game away.

Ryan Bates started for the Lions and went five and two thirds, allowing three earned runs. Kanon Hoover threw a third of an inning in relief.

Natick went 1-3 with a Run scored, while Johnson went 2-3 with an RBI. Logan Moon, Matt Smith, Brett Graham and Jared Lupo had a hit each for the Lions in the game.

Northwest picked up a single run in each of the second and third innings of game two to go up 2-0 early on. Southern bounced back and scored a run in the fifth on an RBI from Moon, scoring Lupo. The Lions then added two more in the top of the sixth on an RBI single from Lupo to go up 3-2.

The Bearcats added a run to tie it up in the bottom half of the inning and neither team scored for the next four innings as the game went into the 11th, the third time of the series to see extra innings.

Brett Graham singled to center to start the inning and Zack Steadman pinch ran for Graham. Austin White sacrificed over Steadman and Lupo reached on an error moving Steadman to third. Nattick then reached on a fielder's choice, scoring Steadman.

Stephen Vaughn, throwing the fourth inning of the game, came in and shut down the Bearcats in order for the win.

Nattick went 3-6 in the game with the go-ahead RBI in the 11th. Graham went 3-5 with a run scored, while Lupo was 3-5 from the plate, as well. Robbe Ewing, Mitchell Osburn and White had a hit each for the Lions, while Lupo drove in a run.

Matt Harvey started and went five and two thirds of an inning, allowing two earned runs, while striking out four and scattering six hits. Drew Noble threw an inning and a third of one-hit ball, while Vaughn threw four, hitless innings, striking out two and walking just one for the win, moving his record to 1-2 on the year.

The Lions will be back in action on Tuesday with a 5 pm single, nine-inning affair at Drury University. Southern will be back at home and will go back to MIAA play next weekend, as the Lions play host to Northeastern State.
