Joplin, Mo. - The Missouri Southern softball team used a 10-run, 14-hit attack in game two to salvage a Senior Day doubleheader split against the Nebraska-Kearney Lopers picking up a 10-2 five inning victory. The Lions fell 7-4 in game one.

Honoring seniors Brooklyn Farrell, Chloe Brown, Shelby Romines and Dawn Grass on the field before the game, Southern (15-31, 7-15 MIAA) was led at the plate by Romines who went 5-for-7 with a double, triple, and a pair of RBI's. Brooke Swadley went 4-for-7 scoring three runs while five other Lions, including Brown and Grass collected three hits each.

The Lopers (11-25, 9-15) started game one with a run in the top of the first, added two more in the fourth and one in the sixth to take a 4-0 lead before the Lions got their bats going in the bottom of the sixth platting four runs to tie the game. Southern scored runs on a Jessica Castoe double, Michala Wood single, a fielder's choice by Brown and a double to left center from Grass.

Nebraska-Kearney responded with three runs of their own in the top of the seventh to re-take a 7-4 advantage getting a RBI single and two RBI doubles. Rachel Harding hit a two-out double to left field in the bottom of the inning, but Castoe fouled out to first base ending the game. The Lions began to find their offense in game two scoring five runs in the bottom of the third as the Lions got back-to-back-to-back RBI's from Brown, Romines and Grass. With Grass on first after her RBI single to left field that scored Romines, Kathryn Goins homered to left field, her fifth home run of the season to take a 5-0 lead.

The Lopers answered back with two runs in the top of the fourth before the Lions closed the door on Kearney platting three runs in the bottom of the frame and added two more in the fifth to win by run-rule in five innings. Southern scored runs off a Castoe double, an error by the Lopers' right fielder and a double to right by Romines in the fourth and a Harding double and Wood single in the fifth. Haley Kinnison pitched her 12th complete game of the season hurling five innings, allowing only three hits and two earned runs as she struck out three to pick up her ninth victory.
