Hays, Kan. -- The Missouri Southern men's track and field team is in second place, just two and a half points from the lead, after day two of the 2013 MIAA Outdoor Track and Field Championships hosted by Fort Hays State University. 

Jayce Thomas started off the day for they Lions by picking up a provisional point total of 6,473 in the decathlon, finishing fourth in the event. He placed second in the hurdles, fourth in the pole vault, sixth in the discus and eighth in the javelin to round out the event. 

Sophomore Jeff Fraley improved both his 100m and 200m times as he qualified for the finals in both events. He came just .08 from an automatic qualifying time in the 100 with a 10.38 scamper and narowly missed (.02) picking up an AQ in the 200m with a prelim time of 20.89. Freshman Erron Holley qualified for the finals of both events, as well.

Michael Juergens led a strong group of vaulters that saw four different Lions pick up points in the event. Juergens placed second with a provisional height of 16-3.50 to earn All-MIAA status. Brady Melugin and John Lowe tied for fourth, while Raymond Woldtvedt placed 8th. 

In other action, Miles Migliara and Thomas quallified for the 800m and the 110m hurdles, respectively, while Eric Schott and Jake Benton placed fifth and eighth in the 10k. 

Taylor McClelland and Darion Boure picked up points in the long jump, placing fourth and seventh, respectively, while Clark Tanksley was tenth in the event. 

Nicklas Polizzi was sixth in the discus, while Dustin Green placed second in the hammer, earning All-MIAA status with a provisional distance of 194-08, moving him into the top ten nationally in the event. Evan Moore placed fifth in the hammer throw. 

Southern will conclude the meet with action beginning tomorrow morning from Hays.
