Lions Softball Drops Final Game of Annual Teri Mathis Zenner Memorial

Joplin, Mo. -- The Missouri Southern Lions (5-14) dropped their final game of the annual Teri Mathis Zenner Memorial Classic today 3-2 to Upper Iowa University.

The Lions managed just three hits against the Upper Iowa pitching with seniors Brianna Fulkerson and Alysha Poteat, and freshman Brooke Swadley accounting for the hits.  Fulkerson and senior Lydia Niemegeers scored the two Southern runs.

Junior Hannah Cooke (0-7) got the start for the Lions and went three and a third innings allowing three runs, one earned, on four hits with no walks.  Sophomore Haley Pypes came in relief and kept Southern in the game allowing the Peacocks just two hits while striking out two.

Southern's next games are scheduled for Saturday March 10 against future MIAA opponent, Central Oklahoma.  The double header with the Bronchos will start at 2pm at Lea Kungle Field at the Robert W. Plaster Sports Complex
