Lions Split in Final Day Action at Five State Classic

Bentonville, Ark. - The Missouri Southern Lions (4-11) got another split in the Five State Classic on Sunday winning 5-1 over Oklahoma Panhandle State before losing 4-3 to Rockhurst.

Sophomore Haley Pypes got the win for the Lions against OPSU going seven innings while giving up two hits and striking out five.

Senior Alysha Poteat led the way offensively going 2-for-3 at the plate while freshman Brooke Swadley, sophomore Shelby Romines, and seniors Brooke Hurley, Brianna Fulkerson, and Lydia Niemegeers all went 1-for-3 at the dish.

In the nightcap junior Kayce Moore suffered the loss giving up nine hits while striking out three.  Swadley would go 2-for-4 at the plate with a double.  Pypes went 2-for-3 while Niemegeers and Poteat each added a double.

Southern will be back in action next weekend at they host the Teri Mathis Zenner Memorial Tournament.  The Lions first game in TMZ will be Friday at 7pm vs. the Lindenwood Lady Lions.
