Joplin, Mo. -- Jordan Patton won two events and
helped the Lions' 4x100m relay team to a school record, and in the
process picked up three provisionals as the Missouri Southern men's
track and field team competed at the 2010 Bill Williams/Bob Laptad
Invitational at Fred G. Hughes Stadium.
Patton won the 100m and 200m with provisional times of 10.53 and
21.44, respectively. Maurlon Bembry was fourth in the 100m, while
Andrew Wright, Bembry and Jacob Khan placed fourth, fifth and
seventh in the 200m.
Bembry led off the Lions' 4x100 meter relay team that raced to a
provisional time and school record of 40.93. The time beat the
previous record of 41.19 that was set in 1997. Patton ran leg two,
while Jacob Khan and Andrew Wright ran the final two
legs.
D'Angelo Wood won the 400m dash, while Kevin Wright, Andrew
Wright and Khan were 3-4-6 in the event. Corey Reynolds won the
high jump with a provisional height of 6-09.75, while Chris Brown
and Patrick Hester placed second and sixth. James Coleman earned a
provisional and won the discus with a 164-11. Aki Nummela placed
second in the 800m, while Sam Pogue was sixth and Brandon Weaver
placed 18th.
Brennan Benkert was second in the 5k, while Jarkko Jarvenpaa was
second in the 1,500m. Pogue placed 14th in the 1,500m. Michael Juergens and DJ Dunmire were tied for fifth in the pole vault,
while Taylor McClelland and Jerry Jones placed fourth and sixth in
the long jump, respectively.
Hester, Jones and McClelland were third, fifth and eighth in the
triple jump, while Andrew Gassen placed fourth in the javelin. Seth Hackney and Coleman both earned provisionals in the shot put as
Hackney Coleman and Kyle Hancock placed second, third and eighth.
Hancock and Tyler Burgess were sixth and ninth in the hammer
throw.
The Lions will be back in action next weekend competing at the
Arkansas Razorback Twilight.
