Maryville, Mo. -- The Missouri Southern
softball team lost two games in the final day at the MIAA Crossover
today, falling 6-2 to Fort Hays and 10-1 to Nebraska-Omaha.
Southern (15-35-1) got on the board first in game one against
Hays, when Kelli
Bax homered to lead off the game. Megan Roark then
singled home Breanna
Volkmann to give the Lions a 2-0 lead after the top of the
first.
Fort Hays (21-16) scored a run in the first, but went ahead with
three in the third and added two insurance runs in the sixth to
secure the win.
Bax went 2-4 in the game, while Volkmann, Roark and Angie Turner had
the Lions other hits. Tiffany Bennett
started for the Lions and went four innings, while Bax pitched the
final two.
Nebraska-Omaha (34-9) scored first in game two with a run in the
first inning, but the Lions tied it up with a home run from Roark
in the second.
The Mavericks broke the game open with six runs in the third and
followed that up with three in the fourth.
The Lions had hits from Volkmann, Roark, Brooke Hurley and
Natalie
Nelson in the game. Whitney Clute
started and Bax relieved.
The Lions will be back in action this Wednesday with a home
double-header against Central Missouri at Kungle field. First pitch
is slated for 3 pm. The game is a make up of a previous rain-out
from earlier in the season.
