Russellville, Ark. -- The Missouri Southern
baseball team scored eight runs over two games, but lost both ends
of a double-header today at Arkansas Tech, falling 4-1 in game one
and 11-7 in game two.
Southern (2-4) scored a late run in the opener as Dane Kolkmeyer
drove in CJ Matthews with a single in the seventh inning. Garrett
Groom started for the Lions and went the distance, and gave up four
runs on five hits.
Arkansas Tech (6-3) scored four runs over the fifth and sixth
innings in game one. A sacrifice fly in the fifth, followed by a
pair of sac fly's and an RBI single in the sixth led to the
runs.
Zach Caldwell went 2-4 in game one, while Jacob Taylor, Matthews
and Kolkmeyer had a hit each.
The Lions went up 4-1 in game two after their half of the third
as a pair of RBIs from Shayne Hoke helped spark the early
output.
The Wonderboys, however, answered back and scored ten runs over
the third, fourth and fifth innings to put the game away.
The Lions scored two runs in the fifth and picked up a run in
the sixth on a home run from Taylor. Caldwell went 3-4 in game two
with two RBIs and a run scored. Skyler Rawlins was 3-4 with two
runs, while Hoke was 3-4 with a pair of RBIs and a run. Patrick
Deao went 2-4 with an RBI. Zach Porath started for the Lions and
went two innings.
Southern will be back in action this weekend when they play host
to Rockhurst for a pair of games on Saturday at Joe Becker Stadium.
First pitch is slated for 1 pm.
