Joplin, Mo. - The Missouri Southern
Women's Soccer team fell 4-3 in double overtime tonight to the
visiting Bearcats of Southwest Baptist University.
The Lions received goals from junior midfielder Danai Noftz, her
fourth on the season at the 22:59 mark, senior forward Sarah Evers, her
first goal of the season at 29:29, and sophomore forward Megan Stueve, also
her first of the season at the 88:06 mark.
Southern held the lead for much of the match until the Bearcats'
Shonee Samia scored her third goal of the match, fifth overall, at
the 87:03 mark to put SBU up 3-2. The Lions then went on to
tie it on the Stueve goal, a breakaway, and force overtime.
Southern had a chance to win the march but was called
offside at the 89:42 mark in regulation.
In the first overtime, as time expired freshman forward Kelly
White was streaking towards the Bearcats' goal to give Southern
their best opportunity to score.
The Lions didn't record a shot in the second overtime.
The loss drops Missouri Southern to 3-5-2 overall and 3-3-2 in
the MIAA, and out of a tie for fourth place with Southwest Baptist.
The next match for the Lions will be Saturday Oct. 9 as they
host the Washburn University Lady Blues at 1pm at Hal Bodon
Field.
