Prior to Southern
Genel prepped at Parkview High School, competing in both cross country and track and field for the Vikings. She earned All-State honors in both sports and was a first-team All-Conference selection in each. In 2022, she placed fourth in the 3,200-meter run and eighth in the 1,600-meter run, earning All-State recognition in both events. Her personal bests include 18:32 in the 5,000-meter, 5:03 in the mile, 2:24 in the 800-meter, 10:54 in the two-mile, and 1:04 in the 400-meter dash.
