CLAREMORE, Okla. — Missouri Southern State University (4-6, 0-1 MIAA) fell to Rogers State University (8-2, 1-0 MIAA) with a final score of 9-1 on Friday at RCB Bank Sports Complex. The game saw Missouri Southern's only run come from a solo home run in the sixth inning.
Missouri Southern faced an uphill battle against Rogers State, falling behind early in the game. In the first inning, Rogers State capitalized on a pair of walks and two singles, scoring three runs to take a quick lead. Missouri Southern was unable to respond, ending the inning down 3-0.
The second inning saw Rogers State extend its lead with another three-run output. A single by A. Contreras brought in two runs, followed by an unearned run scored on a throwing error, putting the Lions behind 6-0 after two innings.
MSSU managed to get on the board in the sixth inning when
Jason Lazo hit a solo home run to right field. However, Rogers State added two more runs in their half of the inning, with one run scoring on a sacrifice fly. The score was 9-1 through six innings.
Despite several pitching changes and a scoreless final three innings from both teams, Southern could not close the gap. Rogers State secured a 9-1 victory.
Walker Sweet started on the mound, pitching 1 2/3 innings and allowing six runs on four hits, with four walks and two hit batters.
