KANSAS CITY, Mo. – Missouri Southern Football student-athlete
Zach Bergmann was named the MIAA (Mid-America Intercollegiate Athletics Association) Defensive Athlete of the Week, the league announced Tuesday.
Bergmann, a redshirt senior linebacker from Rogersville, Missouri, registered a career-high 14 tackles (six solo, eight assists) as MSSU picked up a 33-19 victory over Midwestern State on Aug. 30 at Fred G. Hughes Stadium.
He helped the Lions defense limit Midwestern State to 88 total rushing yards.
The honor is Bergmann's second of his career after previously earning the laurel on Oct. 9, 2023.
Washburn's Justin Lewis and Aidan Battle were tabbed the MIAA Offensive and Special Teams Athletes of the Week, respectively.
The Lions head to Bolivar, Missouri, to take on Southwest Baptist this Saturday. Kickoff is set for 6 p.m., CT.
