Joplin, Mo. – The Missouri Southern Women's Basketball team hosted the Newman University Jets on Thursday, February 6 in a conference matchup. A dominant second quarter on both ends of the floor, outscoring the Jets 22-6, paved the way for a Lions victory, 77-40.

Quarter 1: Missouri Southern 16 | Newman 13
Grace Frazier opened the game with a pull-up jumper, followed by layups from
Kennady Roach and
Reese Webb. With 5:28 remaining in the first quarter, the Lions took an early 8-3 lead after
Morgan Meyers converted a pair of free throws.
Mia Topping stripped away her second steal of the game and assisted
Ava Pautz on a fast break layup to push Southern's lead to 10-3 with 3:37 remaining.
Ryan Franklin stepped up for the Lions, scoring their final six points of the quarter to maintain their lead as the Jets closed the gap. The score stood at 16-13 as the buzzer sounded.
Quarter 2: Missouri Southern 38 | Newman 19
Southern's defense held strong through the first five minutes of the second quarter, only allowing three points to the Jets. A dominant defense paved the way for the Lions to go on an 11-3 run, extending their lead to 27-16 with five minutes remaining until halftime. Southern remained in control, closing the second quarter on another 11-3 run, taking a 38-19 lead into halftime.
Quarter 3: Missouri Southern 58 | Newman 28
After
Mia Topping opened the third quarter with a layup,
Kennady Roach scored eight straight points, including two three-pointers and a layup, to extend Missouri Southern's lead to 48-19 with 7:32 remaining. The Lions continued to build on their advantage with a 9-2 run, led by
Morgan Meyers and Topping, who each contributed three points, pushing the lead to 57-21 with 3:38 left in the third quarter. Missouri Southern held a 30-point, 58-28 lead as the third quarter came to a close.
Quarter 4: Missouri Southern 77 | Newman 40
Morgan Meyers drilled a three-pointer, assisted by
Mia Topping, with 5:58 remaining, maintaining a 63-34 Lions' lead. Both teams traded baskets over the next two minutes, keeping Southern's lead at 30 points with 3:00 left. The Lions closed out the game with a 10-3 run, finishing with a dominant 77-40 victory, a 37-point win.
