Southern Battles Hard but is Stopped by No. 7 Fort Hays

Hays, Kan. – The Missouri Southern Women's Basketball team traveled to take on the No. 7 Fort Hays State University Tigers. Missouri Southern battled to stay within striking distance of No. 7 Fort Hays State, trimming the deficit to six points late in the third quarter. The Tigers held on for a 64-55 victory.

Quarter 1: Missouri Southern 9 | No. 7 Fort Hays State 16
Fort Hays took a 4-0 lead before Ryan Franklin ended the run with a jumper at the 7:20 mark. After nearly four scoreless minutes, Franklin and Ava Pautz each added a jumper to cut the deficit to 10-6 with 1:51 remaining. The Lions trailed 16-9 at the end of the first quarter.

Quarter 2: Missouri Southern 22 | No. 7 Fort Hays State 28
Kennady Roach knocked down a three-pointer at the 9:13 mark, cutting the deficit to 18-12. Both teams traded baskets before Mackenzie Hart connected from beyond the arc, bringing the score to 23-19 with 5:09 remaining. Veonce Powell followed with three points, closing the gap to 24-22 with 2:15 left. The Tigers responded with back-to-back baskets, and Southern went into halftime trailing 28-22.
 
Quarter 3: Missouri Southern 45 | No. 7 Fort Hays State 51
Grace Frazier put the Lions on the board with a jumper at the 8:36 mark and later added a layup to make it 34-26. Mackenzie Hart scored six points, cutting the deficit to eight with 2:52 remaining. Southern pulled within six points with baskets from Frazier, Veonce Powell, Hart, and a buzzer-beating three-pointer from Kennady Roach, the Lions trailed 51-45.
 
Quarter 4: Missouri Southern 55 | No. 7 Fort Hays State 64
Fort Hays sank the first four baskets of the fourth quarter before Grace Frazier broke their momentum with a layup at the 5:51 mark. Both teams battled, and Southern added baskets from Makenna Yokley and Mackenzie Hart, but the Tigers held their advantage for a 64-55 win.
