Southern Halted in the Second Half by Missouri Western

St. Joseph, Mo. - The Missouri Southern Men's Basketball team traveled to take on the Missouri Western State University Griffons on Saturday, February 15, in a conference matchup. The Lions took an early lead, with baskets from Jaden Taylor, Martin Macenis, Tyrone Wright, and Justin Duff, leading 35-32 at halftime. The Griffons came out in the second half, trading the lead, and held on to win, 79-67.

1st Half: Missouri Southern 35 | Missouri Western 32
Missouri Western hit the first basket of the night, and both teams fought for control. Jaden Taylor scored the first six points for the Lions. Over two minutes of play, Tyrone Wright and Tyrique Brooks combined for five points, giving Southern a four-point lead at 13-9. The Griffons tied it up at 17-17 with 9:47 remaining, but Wright halted their momentum with a key jumper.
 
With under seven minutes to play, Justin Duff knocked down back-to-back three-pointers, pushing the Lions' lead to 10 points at 28-18. Missouri Western worked to trim the deficit, but Southern kept their edge, heading into halftime with a 35-32 lead.
 
2nd Half: Missouri Southern 67 | Missouri Western 79
The Griffons came out and exchanged the lead in the first two minutes, going up 40-35. Jaden Taylor stopped their run with back-to-back jumpers, cutting their deficit to 43-39. Missouri Western added five points to extend their lead to 11 points, 52-41 with 14:31 remaining.
 
Isaiah Atwater (three-pointer) and Tyrone Wright (dunk) kept the game within ten points with a combined five points 60-50. Missouri Western held the advantage and secured the win, 79-67.
