KANSAS CITY, Mo. – Missouri Southern's
RJ Hill was named the MIAA (Mid-America Intercollegiate Athletics Association) Football Defensive Athlete of the Week after a career performance in the Lions' 24-16 victory over Nebraska Kearney.
Hill, a Kansas City, Missouri, native, recorded two interceptions, including a 70-yard pick-six, while adding five tackles (three solo, two assisted) to help secure MSSU's first MIAA win of the season. The redshirt sophomore defensive back made his first interception count in a big way, returning it for a touchdown at the 10:29 mark of the second quarter to give the Lions a 10-0 lead. He later sealed the game with his second interception with just over six minutes remaining in regulation.
Jett Huff of Central Oklahoma and Austin Schmitt of Pittsburg State were selected as the Offensive and Special Teams Athletes of the Week, respectively.
Missouri Southern will return to action Saturday, Oct. 25, to face Missouri Western State University in another key MIAA matchup.
