Joplin, Mo. - The Women's Soccer team hosted the Pioneers of Texas Woman's on Sunday, September 8.
The Pioneers were aggressive early, taking six shots, three on goal, in the first 18 minutes of play.
Presley Whitmire returned with two shots on goal of her own from deep. Only one more shot was taken in the remainder of the first period which ended in a
Bella Smith's fourth save in the half. After 45 minutes of play, the Lions and Pioneers were scoreless.
Five minutes into the second half, the Pioneers found the back of the net off a header from a corner kick, giving them the 1-0 lead. The Lions had a tough time offensively and did not get a shot off before the Pioneers scored another goal in the 75th minute. Both teams fought until the end, but it was the Pioneers who came out with the win, 2-0.
The loss brings the Lions record at 0-1-1 (0-0-0 MIAA) on the season. The Lions will hit the road for the first time this season where they will travel to Kirksville, Missouri to take on Truman State at 2:00 PM on Thursday, September 12, at Truman Soccer Park.
