Joplin, Mo. - The Women's Soccer team hosted the Cougars of Colorado Christian on Friday, September 6, at Hal Bodon Field for the season opening game.
After three shots, and one on goal, Colorado Christian scored the opening goal in the 23rd minute to take a 1-0 lead.
The Lions had one shot in the first half from
Nathalia Luiz, but missed it out right as the half ended in a one shot lead for the Cougars.
Both teams were much more aggressive in the second half, combining for eight total shots with less than five minutes remaining.
Within the 85th minute,
Nathalia Luiz took a shot at goal off a corner kick that deflected off the hands of the Cougar's goalkeeper and tied the match at 1-1.
The Cougars were able to get one more shot off before the final buzzer, but missed over the goal to end the season opener in a draw.
The draw opens the Lions record at 0-0-1 (0-0-0 MIAA) on the season. The Lions will complete a two-game homestand on Sunday, September 8, as they host Texas Woman's University at 2:00 PM in Hal Bodon Field.
