Joplin, Mo. - The Missouri Southern women's soccer team hosted the Mustangs of Midwestern State on Friday, September 20. One goal in the first half was enough for the Lions to pull off their first win since 2022, 1-0. The Lions advanced to a 1-2-2 record on the season.
First Half
The Lions struck first in the match with a deep shot into the back of the net from
Presley Whitmire, off the assist of
Nathalia Luiz, to take an early 1-0 lead in the 29th minute. The Lions defense was pristine in the first half, not allowing a single shot on goal from the Mustangs.
Parker Croft and
Sofia Fatino also had a shot on goal in the first half before the 45th minute ended in favor of the Lions.
Second Half
Sofia Fatino and
Sam Ayala opened the second half each with a shot on goal, both being saved by the Mustangs goalkeeper. Despite having four shots on goal, the Mustangs were not able to get the ball past
Bella Smith as she posted her second shutout of the season. The victory for Missouri Southern ends the two year drought, dating back to October 16, 2022.
