Five Out of Six Events Won by MSSU Throwers at ZK Invite

Baldwin City, Kan. - A group of throwers traveled out to Kansas on Saturday, competing at the Zac Kindler Invitational, hosted by Baker University. Of the six events Missouri Southern competed in, five were won by the Lions. Additionally, they had a total of 11 top-three finishes and 8 NCAA qualifying marks. 

The MIAA Championships are next on the schedule for the MSSU track & field teams. Hosted by Northwest Missouri, the event will take place in Maryville, Missouri over the three day span of Friday, May 3 through Sunday, May 5. More information regarding that meet can be found here.

Discus
Hammer Throw
  • Briar Gillum took 2nd, finishing with a throw of 52.48m. Aubrey Skinner placed 6th with a mark of 41.07m. 
  • Peyton Barton claimed a victory in the event, throwing an NCAA qualifying distance of 66.03m. Gabe Ford finished behind him at 2nd with a toss of 56.11m.

Shot Put
  • All four Lions finished in the top six, led by Samariae Bonds and Briar Gillum with 1st and 2nd place finishes. Their throws of 14.73m and 14.58m were both NCAA marks. Kirsten Womack took 4th with a distance of 13.57m, and Mona Keita finished 6th with a throw of 12.51m.
  • Cedric Pearson brought home a 1st place finish in the event, recording an NCAA qualifying mark of 17.78m. Gabe Ford finished 2nd with an NCAA mark of 16.69m.
