Pittsburg, Kan. - The Missouri Southern track & field teams wrapped up their indoor season on Saturday, competing in day two of 2024 Indoor Track & Field National Championships. Between both days, the Lions had two National Champions and five All-Americans. The men's team took home a 5th place finish, and the women's team placed 27th.
Gabe Ford and
Cedric Pearson kicked off MSSU's portion of day two with All-American honors. Ford set a personal best and jumped up to fifth on the MSSU indoor top-10 list, recording a throw of 18.09m for 4th place at Nationals.
Cedric Pearson placed 5th on Saturday, throwing a mark of 18.00m.
Taris Jackson and
Peyton McBride wrapped things up, competing in the triple jump. Jackson just missed the All-American cutoff, taking 9th with a jump of 15.13m. McBride placed 15th in the event, jumping a distance of 14.18m.
The next event on the schedule for the track & field teams is the Richard Martin Jr. Invitational, taking place in Conway, AR. That meet will take place on Saturday, March 16.

60m Hurdles
- JaDarius Pigg placed 12th in the event prelims, running a time of 7.98sec..
Long Jump
- Jon Watts improved his personal best from a couple of weeks ago, recording a jump of 7.57m on Friday to win the event. That distance is the second-best in MSSU indoor history.
Shot Put
- Gabe Ford and Cedric Pearson went back-to-back at 4th and 5th, both earning All-American honors. Ford tossed a personal best mark of 18.09m, and Pearson recorded a throw of 18.00m.
Triple Jump
Weight Throw
- Peyton Barton won the event for the second straight year, recording a throw of 22.72m. That throw was over two feet better than second place at 22.00m.
- Mallory Huber earned All-American honors with a 3rd place finish in the event, tossing a school record throw of 20.17m.
