Springfield, Mo. - The Missouri Southern baseball team played their final game of this road stretch Tuesday evening, taking on the Drury Panthers in a non-conference midweek matchup. Three Lions homered in the game, leading to a 10-8 victory over the Panthers. With the win, MSSU improves to 24-5 (11-2 MIAA) on the year.
The Lions took an early lead, as
Henry Kusiak sent one over the left field wall as just the second batter of the contest. Missouri Southern proceeded to load the bases later in the frame, but nothing would come of that threat. Drury used a big first inning to respond and take a 4-1 lead.
In the top of the second,
Drew Townsend and
Henry Kusiak hit back-to-back doubles, scoring another to cut their deficit to just two. The third inning was quiet, but the Lions broke things open in the fourth.
Tyler Ferguson led off the fourth with a walk, then
Andrew Brubeck tied things up with a two run home run to center field.
Ethan Clark then gave the Lions the lead once again, doubling home Kusiak. Following with another double was
Treghan Parker, scoring
Will Doherty and Clark to give the Lions a 7-4 lead.Â
A couple of innings later,
Wyatt Morgan extended that lead to 9-4 with a two run shot of his own. MSSU got another run in the seventh, as
Will Doherty singled home Kusiak. The Panthers scored one in the seventh, two in the eighth, and another in the ninth, but the Lions held on for the 10-8 victory.Â
Henry Kusiak went 3-4 at the plate, recording a double and a home run. He drove in 2 runs and managed to score 3 himself.
Wyatt Morgan was 2-3 on the day, one of those hits being a home run. He had 2 RBI and a run scored.
Andrew Brubeck also homered in the game, recording 2 RBI in the process.Â
The Lions return to Joplin after five games on the road. They'll host the Washburn Ichabods for a weekend series this Friday through Sunday. The first game of the series is scheduled for 6:00pm on Friday, March 22.Â
