Hot Springs, Ark. - The Missouri Southern baseball team wrapped up the Dugan Invitational Sunday afternoon, taking on the Ouachita Baptist Tigers. The Lions fell to the Tigers 8-1, ending the tournament with a 3-1 record.
Four Lions were named to the All-Tournament team:
Ethan Clark (6-for-16, 2B, 3B, 5 runs, .563 slug., .473 OBP),
Will Doherty (6-for-14, HR, 4 RBI, 4 runs, .643 Slug, .556 OBP),
Cole Gayman (1-0, 6 IP, 1 Hit, 7 Strikeouts, 0.00 ERA, win vs. #17 SAU), and
Drew Townsend (5-for-13, HR, 4 RBI, 4 runs, 8 walks, .619 OBP).
Drew Townsend led off the game with a single and moved to second on a stolen base. A ground out advanced him to third, but the Tigers were able to get the third out before he scored. OBU plated a run in the first and again in the third, taking a 2-0 lead.
Missouri Southern loaded the bases in the top of the fourth as
Nate Mieszkowski reached on an error,
Will Doherty singled to center, and
Drew Davis walked. Again, the Tigers kept the Lions off the scoreboard, ending the inning without any damage done. Ouachita Baptist scored another couple of runs, one in the fourth and another in the sixth, making it 4-0.
With one out in the top of the seventh,
Garrett Rice entered the game as a pinch hitter and made the most of his at-bat, smacking a home run to left. The rest of the scoring was done in the eighth inning, as OBU doubled their score for an 8-1 final.
Drew Townsend went 3-4 in the game, reaching once more on a walk.
Will Doherty also had multiple hits, finishing 2-4. Pinch hitters
Garrett Rice and
Tyler Ferguson each went 1-1, Rice with the lone RBI and run scored.
Missouri Southern will play a mid-week road contest against Southwestern Oklahoma State before hosting their home opening series. That mid-week game is scheduled for Tuesday, February 6 at 1:00pm.
