Weatherford, Okla. - The Missouri Southern baseball team was on the road Tuesday afternoon, taking on the Southwestern Oklahoma State Bulldogs in a mid-week contest. Although the Lions got on the board early and scored a few more late, they fell to the Bulldogs 7-4. With the loss, MSSU moves to 3-2 on the year.
Henry Kusiak drew a two out walk to keep the first inning alive, moving into scoring position on a wild pitch.
Treghan Parker drove him in to get Missouri Southern on the board first, hitting a single up the middle. In their first opportunity, the Bulldogs responded and took the lead with a two-run home run.
A couple of Lions reached base in the second inning, but the score remained the same. Again, MSSU was able to get a couple of guys on base in the third, but the result was similar. The hosts used the third inning to put some offense together and take a 5-1 lead.
Chayton Beck and
Drew Townsend both reached on walks in the fifth inning, but neither were able to score.
In the top of the seventh,
Garrett Rice led off with a triple to left center. He was driven in on a
Drew Davis single to center to cut the deficit to 5-2. SWOSU wasted no time, scoring two more runs in the bottom of the inning.
After one out was recorded in the eighth,
Henry Kusiak reached base after getting hit by a pitch.
Ethan Clark then singled through the right side, and both runners advanced a base on a wild pitch.
Will Doherty followed through with a single to center, driving in both runs. Despite the late push, the Bulldogs were able to hold on for the 7-4 victory.
Treghan Parker recorded a pair of hits in the contest, recording 1 RBI.
Will Doherty finished 1-4 with 2 RBI, and
Garrett Rice ended 1-3 with a triple, 1 run scored, and a walk.
Michael Moore recorded 4 strikeouts in 2.0 innings, giving up 1 earned run.
Missouri Southern will play at home for their next contest, hosting Ouachita Baptist for a three game series. That series will span from Friday, February 8 to Sunday, February 10 with game times scheduled for 3:00pm, 1:00pm, and 1:00pm.
