Women’s Basketball Falls On the Road Against Central Oklahoma

Edmond, Okla. – The Missouri Southern Women's Basketball traveled to Edmond, Okla. to take on the Bronchos of the University of Central Oklahoma in a conference matchup. A battle of back-and-forth runs brought the game within single digits in the final quarter, but the Bronchos would close the game in the final minutes to defeat the Lions 87-76.

Quarter 1: Missouri Southern 18 | Central Oklahoma 27
The Bronchos began the game with a 10-3 run in the first two minutes of play. Makenna Yokley followed with two jumpers to narrow the deficit to 10-7 with 7:09 to play in the first quarter. The Bronchos added to their lead with a 12-3 run to push the score to 22-10 with 3:02 remaining. The Lions finished the remaining minutes with an 8-5 run with points coming from Mackenzie Hart (three-pointer), Kennedy Roach (three-pointer) and Ryan Franklin (jumper) to end the quarter with a 27-18 Bronchos lead. 
 
Quarter 2: Missouri Southern 38 | Central Oklahoma 45
The Lions opened the second quarter with a five-point run from a layup by Ryan Franklin and a three-pointer from Kennady Roach, her second of the game, to bring the score within four points (27-23 Bronchos). The Bronchos responded with a 6-0 run to grow their lead to 33-23 with 6:30 remaining in the second quarter. Veonce Powell led a 7-2 run for the Lions with five points to cut the deficit within five points, 33-28, halfway through the second quarter. Both teams traded baskets until the halftime buzzer, but the Bronchos would slightly grow their lead as the first half ended 45-38 in favor of Central Oklahoma.
 
Quarter 3: Missouri Southern 54 | Central Oklahoma 60
The Bronchos opened the third quarter with a 10-4 run to grow their lead to 55-42 with 6:38 remaining. The Lions took advantage of a pair of shooting fouls from the Bronchos as Kaitlin Hunnicutt and Veonce Powell both knocked down their free throws to go into the five minute media timeout trailing 55-46. Reese Webb had a pair of steals defensively that led to two offensive possessions that resulted in two offensive rebounds and layups from Makenna Yokley to counter a layup from the Bronchos to slightly cut into the Bronchos lead, 57-50, with 3:11 remaining in the third quarter. The remaining minutes resulted in both teams trading baskets as the quarter ended in favor of the Bronchos, 60-54.

Quarter 4: Missouri Southern 76 | Central Oklahoma 87
It was a high scoring back-and-forth start to the final quarter of play as the Bronchos led 74-66 with 4:59 remaining in the game, Ryan Franklin scoring eight points of the Lions 12 in that time. After a pair of free throws from the Bronchos, Kennady Roach (three-pointer) and Grace Frazier (layup and free throw) brought the Lions within four points with 3:29 remaining (76-72). The Bronchos took control in the final minutes of play with an 11-4 run to win over the Lions, 87-76.
