Joplin, Mo. - The Missouri Southern women's soccer team hosted the Jets of Newman University on Sunday, November 3. The match ended in a 1-0 victory for the Lions and moved to a 2-11-4 (1-8-2 MIAA) record on the season.
First Half
Bella Smith set the tone early, delivering back-to-back saves in the opening minutes and totaling four saves in the first half to keep the Lions in control.
Presley Whitmire fired the first shot for the Lions, pushing the offense forward. At the 16-minute mark,
Jilliana Reese found the net, scoring her first goal of the season off an assist from
Mia Barkyoumb. With Reese's goal, the Lions took a 1-0 lead,
into halftime.
Second Half
The Lions intensified their offensive push in the second half, recording six shots as they fought to extend their lead.
Preslee Zeigler worked to extend the lead with a shot but was saved by the Jets goalkeeper.
Bella Smith finished the game with four second-half saves and securing her third shutout of the season. The Lions held onto their 1-0 advantage, sealing the victory.
Sophia Fatino has surpassed Ronise Miller (2014-17) in all-time minutes played for the Missouri Southern Women's Soccer program. Fatino now sets the program record for all-time minutes played with 6,119 minutes and counting.
