Women’s Basketball Wrapped Up at the D2CCA Tip-Off Classic Against Ashland

St. Joseph, Mo. – The Missouri Southern Women's Basketball competed in St. Joseph, Mo. in the season-opening D2CCA Tip-Off Classic against Ashland University, and the Eagles would come away with a 74-44 victory.
 
Missouri Southern (0-2) vs. Ashland (1-1) 

Quarter 1: Missouri Southern 14 | Ashland 24
After a 5-3 opening lead for the Eagles, the Lions would take the lead with five straight points coming from a Kaitlin Hunnicutt three pointer and a Ava Pautz layup. Halfway through the first quarter, the Eagles would finish on a 12-2 run.

Quarter 2: Missouri Southern 21 | Ashland 42
The Eagles returned from a Ryan Franklin layup with three straight three pointers to open the second quarter. Makenna Yokley would add three points to the Lions total with a jumper and a free throw, but the eagles continued to score with a 7 point run. Veonce Powell would close the first half with two free throws and narrowed their lead to 21.
 
Quarter 3: Missouri Southern 37 | Ashland 59
Both teams traded baskets throughout the entirety of the third. Ryan Franklin led the way in the third with six points to maintain the deficit going into the final 10 minutes.

Quarter 4: Missouri Southern 44 | Ashland 74
The Eagles would begin the final quarter on a 8-0 run to take a 67-37 lead. Makenna Yokley added four points to her total with a layup and a pair of free throws, which matched another four points scored for the Eagles. Grace Frazier would add three points to her first collegiate game to finish the game, but the Lions would ultimately fall to the Eagles.
