Volleyball Edged Out by Central Missouri in a Hard-Fought Match

Joplin, Mo. – The Missouri Southern women's volleyball team took on the University of Central Missouri Jennies  on the annual Pink Game. The Lions were defeated by the Jennies, 3-0. Moving to an overall record of 2-14 and 0-5in the MIAA.
 
Game 1: Missouri Southern (2-14; 0-5) vs. Central Missouri (6-8; 2-3)
Set 1: Missouri Southern 20 | Central Missouri 25

The first set was tightly contested, with Missouri Southern starting strong, claiming an early 3-0 lead-off kill from Josey Goldberg (two) and Kyra Thomas. Both teams would trade points and the lead. The Jennies found a three-point jump to take a lead (12-10). The Lions had a two-point jump to close the deficit to two points. Amelia Neels's ace would contribute. Central Missouri held their lead and took set one.
 
Set 2: Missouri Southern 17 | Central Missouri 25
The Jennies opened the set with a 5-0 rally; a Kyra Thomas kill broke the run. The Lions saw the next five points in kills from Amelia Neels, Thomas with three consecutive kills, and Anny Montano (13-8). Missouri Southern also saw points from Josey Goldberg (kill and block), Sydney Unruh (ace), and Landrey VanOverschelde (ace). Central Missouri would take set two.
 
Set 3: Missouri Southern 26 | Central Missouri 28
Missouri Southern opened the third set on the offensive, taking control early with a 7-0 rally to lead 9-2: points from Fernanda Merancio (block and two kills), Amelia Neels (two kills), and Anny Montano (ace). A late set rally from the Jennies evened the score at 22-22. Both teams worked to take the advantage; a kill from Merancio evened the match at 26-26. Central Missouri snatched the two remaining points for the third set.
