Joplin, Mo. – The Missouri Southern volleyball traveled to Warrensburg, Mo. to take on the Central Missouri Jennies. The Lions were defeated by the Jennies, 3-1 and moved to an overall record of 3-18 and 1-9 in the MIAA on the season.
Game 1: Missouri Southern (3-17,1-8) vs. Central Missouri (7-11, 3-6)
Set 1: Missouri Southern 25 | Central Missouri 17
Both teams traded points up to a score of 9-9. After a point for the Jennies, the Lions returned with unanswered three points.
Amelia Neels led the way with two kills and an ace as the Lions grew their lead to 16-12.
Josey Goldberg had two consecutive aces in the later part of the set, growing the Lions lead to 19-13. After the Jennies scored three consecutive points, the Lions ended the set with a 6-1 run to take an early match lead.
Set 2: Missouri Southern 23 | Central Missouri 25
The Lions began the second set the way they ended the first, opening with a 5-1 lead. The Jennies would return to tie the match at 11-11. The Lions retained their lead with two Jennie attacking errors and a kill from
Addysen Alvis to make their lead 14-12. The Jennies fought their way back to a 18-17 lead. The Lions continued to fight, scoring four unanswered points and taking back the lead once again. The Jennies would close out the match with a 7-2 run and tie the match 25-23.
Set 3: Missouri Southern 19 | Central Missouri 25
After the Jennies jumped to a 9-4 lead, the Lions would narrow the deficit with three consecutive points;
Josey Goldberg (kill),
Amelia Neels (Ace) and
Kyra Thomas (Kill). The Jennies added to their lead halfway through the third set to make the score 17-12. The Lions added pressure on the Jennies by going on a 3-1 run, but thhe Jennies would close the set and take the match lead.
Set 4: Missouri Southern 19 | Central Missouri 25
The Jennies would begin the set with a 16-9 lead. After both teams would trade two points, the Lions would stack four straight points; three attack errors on the Jennies and a
Josey Goldberg kill. The Jennies would put the pressure on the Lions, scoring three unanswered points to grow their lead to 21-15. Both teams traded points until the very end as the Jennies closed the match.
