Volleyball Falls to Emporia State

Joplin, Mo. – The Missouri Southern women's volleyball team hosted the Emporia State University Hornets.  The Lions were defeated by the Hornets, 3-0. Moving to an overall record of 3-17 and 1-8 in the MIAA. 

Game 1: Missouri Southern (3-16,1-7) vs. Emporia State (14-5, 6-3)  
Set 1: Missouri Southern 20 | Emporia State 25  

Both teams opened the set to trade points. Emporia State would take the first four-point rally to take a three-point lead (8-5), and a kill from Josey Goldberg would break the run. The Lions would retaliate and even the set 17-17 with a five-point run, Addysen Alvis (kill), Fernanda Merancio (kill), and three aces by Landry VanOverschelde. The Hornets would regain the lead and hold it to take set one.   

Set 2: Missouri Southern 20 | Emporia State 25
Kyra Thomas opened the second set with a kill from Mataiya Barber. Emporia State took the first (8-4). Thomas would kill and push the Lions to a rally to even the score, 9-9; Addysen Alvis (kill) and Mataitya Barber (ace). Missouri Southern would have a 6-1 jump from the service of Kyla Randall to take a three-point lead (17-14). Randall (two aces) and Alvis (two kills) would contribute. Emporia State would answer for their own rally to take the lead and hold it for set two.   

Set 3: Missouri Southern 14 | Emporia State 25  
Both teams traded points, neither taking a large lead. The Lions saw points from Addysen Alvis (two kills and block), Kyra Thomas (block), Kyla Randall (ace), Amelia Neels (ace), Fernanda Merancio (kill), Tori Hamilton (ace), and Josey Goldberg (three kills). Emporia State added to its advantage and held it to take the match.
