Pittsburg, Kan. – The Missouri Southern women's volleyball team travelled to take on the Pittsburg State University Gorilla. The Lions were defeated by the Gorilla, 3-1. Moving to an overall record of 3-15 and 1-6 in the MIAA.
Game 1: Missouri Southern (3-14,1-5) vs. Pittsburg State (9-8,4-3)
Set 1: Missouri Southern 12 | Pittsburg State 25
The Lions opened the match with a kill from
Alana Moesch. The Gorillas pushed the offensive first and took a 9-4 lead. Missouri Southern had points from
Fernanda Merancio (two kills),
Anny Montano (two kills), and
Hanna Lauterbach. Pittsburg State held its lead and took set one.
Set 2: Missouri Southern 25 | Pittsburg State 9
Missouri Southern would find their fire, taking an early 5-0 kills from
Anny Montano and
Kyla Randall. Moments later,
Landrey VanOverschelde would find
Alana Moesch (three kills) for a kill and started an 8-1-point rally –
Amelia Neels (four kills) and Montano contributed. The Lions would continue to increase their advantage and would end the set with a Moesch kill.
Set 3: Missouri Southern 22 | Pittsburg State 25
The Lions would continue their push with a 4-0 lead, with back-to-back kills from
Fernanda Merancio. Pittsburg would retaliate for a six-point jump to even the score. Both teams would trade rallies. The Gorillas would snatch the last three-point rally to take the set.
Set 4: Missouri Southern 12 | Pittsburg State 25
In the first five points, the Lions saw kills from
Amelia Neels,
Fernanda Merancio (two), and
Anny Montano and blocks from
Kyra Thomas and Montano. Pitt State had a five-point jump to take the lead (10-5). The Gorillas held their advantage and took the final set.
