Football Falls in Gritty Contest Against Emporia State

Joplin, Mo. – The Missouri Southern football team hosted the No. 17 Emporia State University Hornets. The Lions were defeated by the Hornets, 49-30 and moved to 1-6 on the season and 0-5 in the MIAA.

Emporia State found the endzone first, and Missouri Southern would get on the board with a Drake Reese 30-yard field goal.
 
The Lions defense held the Hornets' gain, with linebacker Colton Bass and defensive lineman David Va'a anchoring the front. Peyton McKee also came up with a crucial sack, dropping Emporia's quarterback for a 2-yard loss. Missouri Southern held Emporia and forced a turnover at the Missouri Southern 28-yard line with blocks from Stefan Black II and Mason Rumsey.

Colton Bass delivered a quarter-changing interception at Missouri Southern's 42-yard line, setting up the crucial seven-play, 58-yard drive that ended with a 21-yard touchdown pass from Luke Sampson to Draper Parker, narrowing the gap to 21-10.

Emporia would add a touchdown with a rush up the middle. The Lions responded quickly with a six-play, 66-yard drive, highlighted by a 7-yard touchdown pass from Luke Sampson to Isaiah Padello.
 
Quarter 4: Missouri Southern 14 | Emporia State 21
The fourth quarter saw the Lions continue their offensive surge. A quick four-play, 65-yard drive resulted in a 10-yard touchdown pass from Luke Sampson to Alex Martini, bringing the score to 42-23. Shortly after, Missouri Southern executed one of their biggest plays of the day: an 80-yard touchdown pass from Sampson to Dayne Herl.
Emporia State would hold their lead for a 49-30 victory.
