Pittsburg, Kan. - The Lion volleyball team was back in action Friday evening, making the short road trip to take on the Gorillas of Pittsburg State. Southern downed Pitt State in four sets, improving to 10-4 (3-2 MIAA) on the season.
The first set was a thriller, going to a final score of 35-33 in favor of MSSU.
Hannah Allick and
Kyra Thomas recorded the set-winning block to put Southern ahead 1-0. In the second set, PSU was ahead 8-6 when MSSU scored eight straight points to take the lead. The Lions went on to take five of the last six points to take the set 25-21. Although the Gorillas took set three 25-17, Missouri Southern finished off the match with a strong 25-14 victory.
Recording another double-double was
Hannah Allick (44 assists, 14 digs),
Jaryn Benning (14 kills, 11 digs), and
Fernanda Canedo (16 kills, 14 digs).
Tori Hamilton led the digs category for Southern with 32, and
Amelia Neels had an attack percentage of .308 with 8 kills.
Missouri Southern will play again on Saturday, September 30 at Edmond, Oklahoma as the Lions face the Central Oklahoma Bronchos. Game time is set for 6:00 PM.
