St. Joseph, Mo. - The Lions began MIAA conference play on the road against Missouri Western on Sunday, September 24, which resulted in a 2-0 loss for Southern.
Victoria Torres was the first to get a shot on goal for the Lions, but it was saved by the Western goalkeeper.
Jori Hays took two shots in the 19th minute, one on goal, but neither found the back of the net.
The Lions defense held strong in the first half of play keeping the score at 0-0 with only allowing two shots on goal, one being blocked by the Southern defense and the other saved by goalkeeper
Bella Smith.
After the Griffons scored a goal in the 58th and 63rd minute,
Aisley Stevens and
Jori Hays both put a shot on goal in the 84th minute that were both saved by Missouri Western.
Maya Greenquist was the final Lion to get a shot on goal in the 89th minute, but was saved by the Griffon defense finishing the game at 2-0 in favor of Missouri Western.
The Lions move to 0-7-1 (0-1-0 MIAA) on the season and will travel to Wichita, Kansas on Friday, September 29th, to take on Newman at 7:00 PM in their second conference match of the season.
